About Us
Before 1890, Highland Springs was a rural area of small farms that had been carved from pre-Civil War plantations. A winding country road bisected the area. In 1905, the one-room schoolhouse in Highland Springs had 27 students in grades 1-6. The town, one of the area's first planned communities, was named for its relatively high elevation and the number of springs in the area. The current elementary school is located in Henrico's Varina magisterial district.
